A6 keeps jerking

i recently ran out of fuel. the car cameto a complete standstill. after getting it started and filling up the car has been jerking since as if ts starved of fuel. it eve eventually shut off and refused to start. i would have to wait a while before it would start again. revs would also drop suddenly etc when idling till it switched off. I changed the petrol filter as my mechanic suggested. But after a day or so the problem resurfaced. I suspect its the pump. But before i take it back in iare there any ideas what may be the matter.

I was going to suggest the fuel filter until you said you'd already replaced it, it sounds like it's dragged some crud off the bottom of the tank that's managed to lodge itself somewhere.

Not sure how much damage running the pump dry can cause and if that could be starting to fail. :confused:

You need to get a fault code read done so you're not guessing.
