I have a 2.8 V6 cab 96 P reg

i run on standard unleaded but it dosnt like tickover and i wondered if i should use premium unleaded.

I could try a tank full to see if it helps.

Hi,

Are you in UK? our 'standard' unleaded is 95 RON and is referred to as premium unleaded.

Super 97 RON or Super+ unleaded should not be needed but it may run a little better/use slightly less fuel.

Thanks for that, i am in UK and noticed somebody filling up an e320 merc with super+ and just wondered if my 2.8 needed it as it dosnt like ticking over and cuts out

i will try a tank full next time and se what happens

Russ,

That sounds more like a vacuum (intake) leak, or possibly a problem with the idle stabiliser valve? Sometimes if the throttle body internals are coated with 'gunge' from the crankcase breather, the airflow at idle gets reduced to the point that the isv can no longer cope. If you add a vacuum leak, the car will cut out often.
I read that the V6 has a weakness, where the intake 'hose' connects to the throttle body. This joint is prone to losing it's seal. A solution is to pull the hose away and wrap two turns of telephone wire around the stub before refitting the hose. Maybe worth looking into?

Thanks for that Scotty

I have had the idling valve and brether hoses checked and they were clean.

Ill check the intake hose as you suggest its got to be something simple as apart from this enoying cutting out when stopped at the lights it goes like a dream

thanks
