Hi everyone,

I've got a 98 1.8 SE saloon, the front suspension seems to knock a lot when going over speed bumps, lowered kerbs at low speed, those painted lines you get before roundabouts on fast roads etc. I'm not sure it's the actual springs because the ride otherwise is very smooth. Is there something that the springs are attached to that may be loose or at the end of its life? Or is it the shocks/dampers hitting the end of their travel (eek) and they need replacing? It's done 85k and don't think anything suspension related has ever been replaced. Don't know too much about suspension etc so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks

id say more than likely your front anti roll bar bushes, around £3/5 each, ball ache to fit so unless you are handy with a spanner, you may want to get it into a garage for the work. could possibly be the wishbone, but youd notice this with the handling.:beerchug:

Thanks for that, will suggest that to my local garage. I take it the bushes are something different to the 'drop links' that I had changed when first trying to solve this?

i expect you had wishbone bushes changed?

arbs, have tiny bushes in each end, but they're(arbs) not known as bushes

Well they were essentially 'C' shaped pieces of metal that I seem to remember attach the anti-roll bar to the suspension I think (or maybe it was the chassis?). I was told there should be no sideways play in them and there was, hence the change but hasn't improved matters.

Are these what you would call wishbone bushes?
