Have done the exact same thing myself 2 days ago as a result of a frozen door. Don't know how to fix it though so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Hi If you pull the door handle open,on the side of the handle you will see a cable, you will need to adjust this.

Hi The cable is pushed into notches on the handle, release the tip of the cable and pull it towards the handle, then, press it back into the locking notches.

For the benefit of anyone else who may have this problem, here is the diagram plus instructions on what to do to solve this problem.

Many thanks to Kenney for supplying this http://forum.football365.com/images/smiley_icons/5.gif

The cable (2) fits into the groves on the door handle.

If you get someone to hold the handle open while you release the tip of the cable, use a pointed pair of pliers to hold the cable, that way the cable is not pulled back by the spring in the lock, just pull it towards the handle and press it in again.

Directed I suspect primarily to Kenney:

With the selfsame problem after ice earlier this week, I am finding it difficult to see how to do this without first removing the plastic fairing (7) in your diagram. Is this just a matter of levering it off? Thanks in advance for answering a pretty basic query.

NO! Don't just prise it off!
Open the door and if it's the front door, you will see a black plastic cap on th inside edge of the door. The rear doors do not have this cap, just the rubber door seal. On the seal, you will notice it gets a little thicker where it plugs into the door. Pop this section out & inside you will see a 'torx' bolt. This will screw out, but there's no need to remove it. Once you've screwed it out, section 7+8 will then slide out together, allowing easy access to the cable with long nose pliers.
If the handle is sticking out, you'll probably find the handle has actually popped out of the handle carrier (4). To rectify the problem, 1st screw the torx bolt back in, then carefully use the pliers to relocate the two lugs of the exterior handle (6) back behind the section inside the door. Once you've done this, remember to retract the torx bolt before slotting sections 7+8 back in. This can easily be done without removing the door trim.

Good luck
