I can only assume that it would smoke a lot but I do know if your air flow sensor is knackered it will make it run erratically. Sometimes feeling like it's got boost and other times as flat as pancake, might be worth checking that first. Best to get some one who's got the VAG COM diagnositics to run a check on it for fault codes first it'll save you money in the long run as you shouldn't then end up buying parts you don't need.
