Had my car 1.8 (160) petrol about 1 and half months now.
I have noticed that I get a lot of white smoke from the exhaust even after the car has warmed up. I know its cold outside and it can be expected this time of year but it seems quite excessive.
Should this be expected?
Well, I have the same car and I get very little smoke from the car. Even this morning when it was very cold (-2 according to the car) at 630 this morning I had almost nothing coming from the car. I had the LED lights lighting up the back of the Mrs 1.9 tdi A3 and the smoke coming from that thing was amazing. I was gonna do a Michael Jackson dance on the slippy drive, with the smoke and the LEDs looked like a stage show whilst I was went round an scraped both cars with the engines on
That doesnt help you does it! I get very little smoke from the same engine as you

I also noticed that after I had turned the engine off there was still a small amount of smoke coming from the exhaust....don't know if im being fussy or if there is something not quite right?

I have noticed exactly the same from my 1.8T 160. Even after a 40 mile commute on the motorway, a glance in the wing mirrors shows a fair old exhaust plume.
Couple of points...plume has little smell and is not 'dirty' and I also think the way the exhausts exit straight out the back makes the discharge seem even more obvious. Saw another A4 at idle in a jam and it was just the same. Two of us side by side could have effectively screened the motorway!:biglaugh: Very little oil consumption though and the engine is a cracker, smooth and with quite good mpg.
So I don't think there is anything wrong but would be interested to know the techy reason for some models throwing out so much exhaust gas and others not.
