Hi
I had a similair problem on my old Mk4 Golf - you could try and change the fuse - the fuse book on the right will sohw you the fuse - but failing that i heard from a VW mechanic that it is a common problem and you will likely have to chnage the motor. I do not know if resetting the memory does anything but that could be worth a try
Hope that helps

The washer jet leaks water into the motor & seizes it up. A replacement motor is the only option.

Could you explain how to remove the rear wiper motor so it can be replaced? Mine suddenly stopped working and I bought another one, but i've not had the time to go and replace it yet - pointers or a how to would be great if there is anyone that has done this already?

Removing the trim can be a pain, but undo the two screws and pull it off - gently!
The motor is exposed then. I've never taken it off myself, but I imagine it's straightforward enough.

hi i had a similar prob with mine and went to vw and they told me 99 times out of 100 that it is the mechanism thats faultly which i replaced very easy to do and they are working fine now not normally the motor a common probs on the mk4 they normally get slower then stop all together;)

If I can remember correctly, there are a couple of obvious screws to remove, then the whole of the trim can be removed, this can often require brute force to release a cornr, once it is pulled away fom the tailgate you will be able to see the remaining clips & use a trim tool to release the clips. Disconnect the washer pipe, (push fit,) disconnect the wiring harness, flip the cap off the wiper arm & remove th nut. The wiper arm is on a taper, so lift the arm and rock it whilst pulling, this should release the arm, remove the three bolts (I think its three) from the motor & pull it out. Refit in reverse order.
Note, it is a wise move to place a small cable tie around the washer pipe on refitting, this should prevent it from blowing off if the washer blocks or freezes.
Cheers Scruty.

Hi
I had the same problem. The wiper was not working, the fuse was fine did a voltage check at the wiper and there was no earth. When I pulled the righthand side rubber grommet between the boot and car, the earth ( brown) wire was broken. A quick solder job and up and running again. Worth a try.
