oil pressure light on

hi the oil pressure light is on in my sharan 1.8t but it only comes on after i drive a mile then switch the car off and on again and the light wont come on till u have done the mile again. can any please shed some light on this problem

This engine is known for sludge build up in the sump, this can then block the oil pump.
get the sump cleaned out and the pump checked/changed.
