Hi all.

Can anyone help???:1zhelp:

I have a problem with my MK4 Golf GTI. When driving along in any gear, if i put the pedal to the metal it just revs very high, if i slowly increase the power its o.k. just have to get used to not being to pedal happy. No problems engaging gears, gear shift not jumping out of gear.
Someone told me it could be a slipping clutch and to try putting it in 3rd and dropping the clutch, if it stalls its not the clutch if it still runs it maybe the clutch. When I drop the clutch it stalls.
Someone also told me it could be the lambda sensor???

Please help.

The way I've always tested the clutch in the past is to drive along in 2nd or 3rd on a straight, flat peice of road at mid revs and, while holding the throttle at that point, apply the brakes firmly. If the clutch is going to slip it will happen then.
It sounds like a slipping clutch from your description. I can't think of a reason why a faulty lambda sensor would cause those sort of symptoms.

I figured it could be something to do with the air flow, and the engine wanting to put more fuel through than it needs.

If your engine revs and your not going anywhere quickly its more than likely the clutch, the third gear test only works when the clutch is really shot.

sounds like you clutch is worn out. if you floor it and the revs go up but the car doesnt go any faster, then the clutch is slipping as it can no longer transfer the torque to the wheels.

Sounds like the clutch to me. What's the mileage?

The mileage is just less than 85000 on a T plate.
Thanks everyone for your opinions, have to get it down the garage.
Anyone know roughly how much it costs to supply and fit a clutch???
