Had my A4 for 2 1/2 weeks now, covered 1,250 miles and I've got my 1st problem.

I've been pretty patient with regards to breaking the car in and have gradually increased the demand.

On Saturday however, accelerating hard in 4th get to approx 3,500rpm and the power suddenly dies, push my foot flat to the floor and nothing, car remains at the same revs but no acceleration. Some amount of juddering and vibration too.

Happened again today in 3rd at about 4,500rpm, this time power stopped then hesitated for a good 3-4secs, juddered and then power returned normal again.

Booked it in for next week but just wondered if anyone else experience anything similar with the same engine?

Dealer also going to be looking at the ignition because the key keeps getting stuck! :(

Yep - I had the same problem wih same engine - It is misfiring like it is running out of fuel. I ignored it and it seemed to go away (Happened between 1000 and 2500 miles)

Latest update though, check engine light has been on and off so I took it in, fuel pressure fault code and the fuel pump started sounding like an argos blender!

I had hoped they would replace the pump, and that would be it but they have been onto Audi tech and currently don't know what the problem is :)

They have given me a tdi multitronic while I wait, slow, but at least its smooth...

Picked up the car from the dealer this morning. As expected they could not find any fault with the enginge or enging management system.

Also found no problem with the key getting stuck in the ignition. Although this has not happended during the last 7 days.

I try and keep my interior absolutely spotless, dust and mark free! Annoyingly of all, one of the technicians left a crisp packet in the passenger footwell!!!!!:aargh4:

To make a point, I took it back to the service centre and told them not even my fiance is allowed to eat crisps in the car! The guy just smiled.

Quick update to this:

1st Audi garage could not find anything wrong so gave it back to me. Took it to another dealer and booked it in for Monday just gone - they replaced the fuel pressure regulator and sent me on my way, last night (24hours after getting the car back) the EMS light is back on and the fuel pump is still sounding sick. I can just hear it over the stereo on low when driving at 30mph.

Back to the dealership again then..

Anyone else had any issue with this engine?

These problems occuring at such an early stage of ownership really are concerning me. I am currently considering the new A4 tsi/td but have been appalled with the various information in regard to lack of reliability.
Within 12 months I hope to purchase Audi/Passat CC/ Merc 200C, but am being constantly made aware of reliability issues, with both Audi and VW.
Fortunately I have time to consider manufacturers, fuel/diesel options.
The perceived lack of interest displayed by some Audi dealership/repair outlets ( USA Forums ) again is a major worry.

I am not going to knock the reliability just yet - just a misdiagnosed small problem.

What did irk me is that it almost wouldn't start on Sat morning!! Sure it was cold, but it took a couple minutes of cranking to get it going - touch and go as I was a bit unsure how much was left in the battery.
