Mornin all

Just a quick one,

Need to get my mk4 tdi 130 (53 plate) serviced for her 5th year 50,000 mile.

Could you let me know the servicing requirements for this one (parts, correct oil grade and checks etc):confused:

Cant afford to get VW to do it so will get the parts myself and get it done locally.

Thanks :biglaugh:

It depends really on what sort of service you want. There are services and there are SERVICES!

One garage could basically change the oil and filter (If your lucky!) and call it a service. Other (Good) garages will give the car a good check over (Suspension, tyres, engine, lights, ALL fluids etc, etc etc) in addition to changing oil and filters etc etc. If they find any other problems, they should get your go ahead to fix them. Then show you the knackered bits they've replaced when you pick your car up. So its a bit hard to say what parts you will need (Apart from the basic filters and oil etc) until you have the service done. Buying the parts and taking them to a garage to fit though is a bit cheeky (As Crasher has previously said), its a bit like ordering a birthday cake from the bakers and giving them the ingredients with which to make it! If you want genuine VW parts (Which have a 2yr warranty, non VW bits dont!) then specify this to the garage.

The critical thing with the PD engines though is that they MUST be run on the correct spec oil. The best is the 507 spec (eg. VWs Quantum Longlife 3). There is also a 501 spec, but changing it every 10000 miles is (Id say) a bit much for this oil. I use the 507 spec and change it every 6000 miles.

Do a search for PD oils, there are LOADS of threads on the subject.

Erm, re the oils; the 501 SHOULD READ 505 spec! DOH!

505.01 = the adequate stuff
507.00 = the top banana stuff! (To guard against cam/cam lifter/turbo failures use this stuff - thought these failures are more common on the 150's :eek: )
