I got to ask this to put my mind at rest (or possibly not) but does anybody else feel like a VAG Forum addict? Seems like the first thing I do when I come down the stairs in the morning is grab the Laptop and see what I've missed in between late last night and now. If I go out, when I get back first thing is switch on the Laptop.
The Internet went down across Birmingham last month for a couple of days and I didn't know what to do with myself. Are you an Addict? Do you think you have a Cyber problem?

I'm ok. I use it to pass time when I have nothing to do, or to search on when I have problems.
As I've been busy recently I haven't been on as much! :)
So can I point and laugh now? :p
The answer to that would be no. I spend far too much time doing other online activities. :( Playing certain online games during the winter months is one such affliction. :(

What's "Pure" maths?
I wouldn't say I'm addicted. I generally go on at lunch time and some times in the evening depending on how busy I am with baby & DIY. I'm currently on Far Cry 2 on my XBox so I don't get a lot of free time at the minute.

Certainly used to be. I have also been hooked on gameplay before now but seem to have lost interest in that. I use this forum and another regularly but used to be on 4 or 5.
Since the laptop at home fell apart I do not go on that many evenings as it means borrowing Little QV's laptop and she is on it most times.
I think this site and the other I visit have slowed down a little as I can be off them all weekend and catch up relatively quickly on a Monday.
I have started reading books again!

What's "Pure" maths?
Don't even go there....:p
I'll make your head hurt, we'll it did mine, and I've got a degree in it :D
Broadly speaking, pure mathematics is mathematics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics) motivated entirely for reasons other than application. i.e. Maths for maths sake, rather than for anything useful per se. However useful stuff does come out of it sometimes.
On part of Pure Maths that's a bit more widely known is 'Fermat's Last Theorum', which states that for n>2, there is no integer solution to the equation. x^n + y^n =z^n , where x, y, and z are integers (whole numbers).
You can do it for n = 2, i.e. 6^2 + 8^2 = 10 ^ 2, 36 + 64 = 100, but not for any number greater than 2.
Anyway, the reason this is famous, well at least in Mathematical terms, is that Pierre Fermat wrote in a margin of a book that he'd found a marvellous proof of this theorum, but the margin was too small for it. However nobody's found his proof, and nobody's been able to prove it either true or false since. :o
Told you it would make your head hurt :D

I certainly used to be addicted to this place.
These days I'm not on so much, work has got busier (probably because I stopped doing as much work :p) and I've less time.
I've amassed some 3,673 posts in just 16 months. My average post count per day is 7.56. I rarely make 7 posts a day these days... but a few months back I was making twenty odd posts each day!
Having said that this is the only forum I've signed up to (apart from the Bimmerforum lark :p), so I'm not addicted to forums altogether.

So it's like the equivalent of prog-rock, it's a self-indulgence for the sake of it?!! :p :D
How did you do a degree in that? Respec' and ting, rude boy!!
I did a degree & post-grad diploma in architecture which was no walk in the park, but I wouldn't last the first day of a course like that! I'd find it interesting enough but it'd go way over my head!
Horses for courses I guess, talk of design theories & philosophies probably make many people glaze over pretty quickly!! :o
Architects often borrow seemingly unrelated theories/philosophies and base their work around them. I bet someone, somewhere has translated 'Fermat's Last Theorum' into a set of design rules!!
