Hi i have a problem with me passat, starts fine but idles funny like its hunting also doesent like climbing hills liuke it used to have to use 2nd or even 1st and boot it, if im on motorway dont notice the problem as much...?
1: changed oil & oil filter.
2: changed fuel filter & put redex in.
3: changed air filter.
4: have INSP on dash when start up goes after little while
5: have had diagnostic done no fault codes present.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be great help...?

Sounds like the throttle body, try cleaning it using some carb cleaner, or try performing a throttle body reset using vagcom

Do you just take off the big black pipe off the idv and squirt a lot of carb cleaner at the butterfly valve...?
The diagnostic i have is an MAXIDIAG EU702 and it isnt show any trouble codes but the car has loss of power on hills and idles rough like its hunting

No, I removed the throttle body completely, and used carb cleaner to clean it, reinstalled it and then squirted some more carb cleaner down the pipe.

If you just squirt some carb cleaner down the pepe, it wont clean it that well, might just loosen the dirt but that dirt then gets passed along.

Take it if (if you can) and give it a proper clean.

Get a diagnostics done via vagcom (again if you can), Ive got no experience of a maxidiag

i just squited carb cleaning down pipe seems like its hunting more now on idle, if i take it off and give it thorough clean will this cure the problem, and will i have to have it readjusted by vagcom...?
how much is a vag.com diagnostic?
also the coolant temp sensor shows up on diagnostic
and the carbon filter solenoid makes a ticking noise which it never used too...?

Taking it of and cleaning it will get rid of all the gunk, and you'll be left a clean tbc, DONT scrub too hard, there is a very thin film on the middle part (where the valve meets the shell) scrub to hard and that wears of and time for a new one.

As for the hunting, its trying to find the best point, you can either give it a few days and it should settle, or use vagcom and reset it to defaults (quicker, and you dont have to wait a day or so)

Cost of diagnsotics, well where are you from? there may be a member who is close to you and can do it for free or beer money :) I dont actually know if there is a 'standard' charge, I charge a tenner, not just for tb but all in, diagnostics, antihijack, usual stuff, mes from bradford. I dont drink, so beer aint any good to me :D Ask on here, may find someone local to you who will do it.

After water leaks the next most common problem with Passats is the coolant temperature sender. There are actually two sensors in one. The one sensor provides the reading for the temperature gauge the other for the ECU. The sender was redesigned and the new ones are green. The old ones are black. I Think there about £25 from dealers.

See this link for the temp sensor http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1287042

Id change the temp sensor first, I mean if its being flagged as faulty, you need to change, change that then do the throttle body alignment.

Went to me local vw parts today to order temp sensor said theres a blue or green one ? one round and other square so will have too look at mine 1st..
will change that tommorrow then will take idle control valve off and clean it....!
After cleaning it will the ecu reset the values after a few days or will i have to find a vagcom usb interface have seen some on ebay for around £15..?

No, the ecu wont reset just by cleaning the tb. You have to either tell it to reset via vagcom via a throttle body alignment, OR drive it around for a few days for it to reset.

As for buying vagcom, I'd heartely recommend it. Pm a member on here called eshrules, he will sort you out, hes a regular on here and many a member has bought vagcom through him, highly recommend him. Ive bought my stuff through him. If you buy via ebay you dont really know what you're getting, prob some cheapo chinese knock of. Wth eshrules hes give you support after you've bought the cable. Go via him.

Plus once you have vagcom, theres other stuff you can tinker with, and you have the added knowedge that if something doesnt fell right with the car just plug it in and do your own diagnoastics :D

Save yerself dealer prices for diagnostics. My local dealer charges £80 for a diagnostics!!
