I thought I'd put a flip side on the Horrible Motors thread and see what you guys rate as cool. As before doesn't matter if it's retro as you like it or up to date current, anything cool.

I'll start off with a random one I've always liked...

Sadly they can be a bit 'chav-tastic' these days, but in their prime, they were a cooool car!

Real Escort Cossie's can't ever be described as Chav Tastic, the Chavs filler a Cheap fibreglass bodykit onto an XR3i and think they've got you fooled but to the trained eye you can spot a real or fake one straight off. An absolutely glorious motor and if you know my stance on Ford in general you'll realise this is a big compliment. ;)

Sad as it is, I wouldn't mind one of these...

No it is not sad. I was only thinking last night how I would ove to won one again. I suppose it is because it was my first car. A 1600L in dark blue with a white (yes white) vinyl roof, 8 spoke chrome wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. I later slotted a 2.0 Pinto OHC in.

Anyway getting a little real. My four favourite cars.

thems fightin' words!:booty: how can you not like it a little? a nice black one with those mad wings, i think that is so smooth! cant find a decent picture of one with out a stupid exhaust or a proper over the top spoiler, once again, the chav taketh over.

One of my good mates used to have a black turbo, it had the hardest back breaking suspension ever and had a very bad habit of hanging it's tail out just when you didn't want it to (hence the nickname "widowmaker"). No I'm not very fond of them.

That's right, the prototypes were lower. After a while, they lowered them again and sorted out the horrendous positive camber.

I had 2 - An Imp and then a Stiletto. You could call it three if you count the one I bought for spare parts.

they had a colostomy bag in the front for a washer bottle:D

I'd forgotten about that! I did swap mine for a proper washer bottle with a washer pump to replace the push bulb on the dashboard (and I put twin speed windscreen wipers aswell)

Nope, just a humble 1275 but I had an Oselli inlet, LCB ex manifold, RC40 exhaust and a re-needled carb.

It used to really shift up to about 60mph then it was useless. It would also out handle almost anything as well. You can't really tell from the pics but it was lowered about 2" (done by cutting the metal trumpets down LOL), had 1" spacers along with the wider rubber.

As a result I ended up having to change a wear bearing or balljoint about once a month when I used it !!

Would have been worth a small fortune restored. My father-in-law had the boring version, the Vauxhall Carlton.

It was a 2.0 CD, forever he claimed it was a 2.5 V6... it just wasn't. It wasn't powerful enough, then again I don't think Vauxhall made a 2.5 V6 until they out them in the Vectras?

Following that he got a 2.0 CDX, slightly posher.

They're a true love-it or loathe-it car.

Still don't think they put the V6s in the Carltons, but I could be wrong.

I had a 2.9 V6 Scorpio Granny when I was in my 20's !

Loved it, big fat cruiser of a car with every gadget imaginable even by todays standards.

My current Passat though has almost as much power, as much torque and uses at least half the fuel to travel the same distances.

I do agree, they are slow in strandard trim, 160bhp, loads of metal added and a 4x4 drivetrain, definately doesn't spell a quick mk2. The opportunity came up for me to buy a Tornado Red one a few years back at the right price, I hummed and ha'd and came to the conclusion that I would be dissapointed with the performance and didn't buy it. I still wonder to this day whether it was the right decision.

Hmm... With previously mentionrd mods you get them up to about 200ish BHP which should do the trick performance-wise, or certainly re-invigorate it. They were all left-hand drive though! I reckon that'd have done your head in the most!

I could definately handle LHD, I'm going build a Mk2 in the new year hopefully with a 16V G60 (I've been planning it for years but kept putting it off) which means I'll probably have to use LHD to give clearance for the alternator mounted at the back of the engine.
It'll feel strange at first but reckon you'll soon get used to it. :D

You've got to remember a Cool Car doesn't have to be silly fast to be Cool.

I mean in heavy traffic, not being able to see round the car in front to overtake etc. would be a pain in the posterior!
Definitely agree with not having to be fast to be cool! I was thinking about that 14 year old lad who wanted to make his 1.4 Golf quicker in the Golf section.
Wrong way to go about it, he should make it cooler, not the same thing at all! Nice wheels, leather interior etc.

The original is undeniably cool, it was probably the main star in Vanishing Point! I've always thought Challenger's were cool, probably more so than the Charger.
There's something altogether more chunky about the new one though, like Euroslap said it's cool the way they're like reworked originals, the new Mustang as well ( best forget the crap that was given that name in the 80's & 90's!!).
VW have been evolving the Golf since it came out, never having a radical change aesthetically from it's predecessor, suppose they've led the way again!!

Totally agree.

I don't know if you know or others know but you can still buy brand new MK1's in RHD !!!

http://www.vw.co.za/models/citi/

Cack engines though and a transplant would be in order.

And the price...

101,400 rand

which is

£6,907.42 !!!! (as at 20/12/08)

Add a couple of grand to ship it here

Add another couple for an engine transplant and you've got a spanking new MK1 for lets say £12,000 top wack !!!

If VW put them up for sale here, they would sell like hot cakes, I'm sure.

Indeed.

A 1.8t BAM (225hp) S3 engine tuned to say 300hp would be the ultimate.

A PD150 tuned to around the 240hp mark would be quite nice to.

Both of these conversions could be had for less than 10k including buying the citigolf in the first place, I reckon.

Now there is a good business idea ? Once you have worked out once the tricky stuff like engine mountings, gear linakge, exhaust and driveshafts it would be easy! I seriously would do this if I had the cash.

Once you've had a kid in it for a while, it'll be slightly stained. Mine managed to drip ribena through the child seat onto the rear seat. Fotunately it was the old renault, and now they're a bit older, they don't trash the Audi so much.

It did have a highly modified Rover V8, quadruple downdraft weber 44's modified heads and either a 4.2 or 4.4 bottom end.

There was an issue with the carbs so to get it past it's sva he resorted to fitting modified twin su's. The main thing was to get it ready for the various shows over the summer.

Waiting in the wings though is a BMW V12 out of a 750iL so it will fill the engine bay very nicely.

Its running a Renault 30 gearbox which will have to be further beefed up to handle the V12, rear brakes are discs and calipers of a merc the fronts i'm not sure but they were very big with multi piston calipers.

There is a hand made wiring loom which is very trick coupled to various LVDT's and RVDT's to operate all the toys he was talking about fitting (he has hand makes looms for other Diablo kit cars in exchange for having the body panels proffesionally fitted.

The paint job has to be seen to be believed and cost a serious amount of wedge (its as good as any high end paint job)

The photos of the engine bay did not come very well but will try to get revised ones.
