I've read a few thread's on the differences between the 130 / 150 bhp tdi's.
Obviously the 130 being the more reliable having stronger head, rods + cam shaft.
150 quicker but with those weaker downfalls / reliablity issues..
So my theory, take a 130 tdi add all external engine parts from the 150.
(the ARL engine rad, turbo, fans, front panel, A/C condenser + different pipe work etc)
This is probley a flawed idea from the start, but wondered if any one else has thought of this crazy idea before?
& could it work to make the ultimate (reliable) - GT GTI TDI 150 hybrid?
Is this possible? .. in theory
Any opinions will be much appreciated..

a 150 and 130 use the same engine componants...... only difference between them is the larger turbo and FMIC i believe.
There are quite a few members on here with PD130's running at 180BHP with no mechanical changes, just a remap!

No, the 130 ASZ does not have stronger rods, head or cam, those parts are absolutely the same on both the ARZ and ARL. The only difference between the ASZ (130) and ARL (150) is certain ASZ engines had a different piston part number (God knows what the difference is) and then it is all down to turbo, charge cooling and ECU, nothing else. The reason the ARL is more unreliable than the ASZ is purely down to the extra loading applied to the ARL turbo which breaks down the oil faster and causes premature turbo and cam failure. I have proved beyond doubt (using customers cars) that doubling up the oil changes means the ARL lives just as long as the ASZ.
The VAG dealers are bleating about a lack of work, ponder this then.
1) Sell “X” number of cars in year 2000 with a service interval of 1 year.
2) Sell “X” number of cars in year 2007 (approximately the same sales as year 2000) and double the time/distance between services.
3) Sell “X” number of cars in year 2008, (not what one would describe as a good time for selling an expensive product that loses 50% of its value in three years) and those figures being far less than 2007.
3) Result, ohh what a surprise, I have less than half the work I had before! Which idiot worked that one out?

As above, depending on what power you are trying to achieve, a good remap alone will get your 130PD pushing approx 180bhp and 295lbs/ft torque. Much stronger than this, and you will need to uprated your clutch.
Custom mapping can be carried out to achieve approx 340lbs/ft with an uprated clutch fitted ;)
