Wiring in Sat Nav A4 2008 (old model)

I would like to permanently feed my Tom Tom sat nav from an under the dashboard power supply.

Can anyone suggest the best way of achieving this?

Quite easy to do, would suggest a trip to www.dsldevelopments.com (http://www.dsldevelopments.com) to buy a vent mount bracket and and associated holder for your TOMTOM device. Make sure you get the one thats supplied with the cable and power converter as TOMTOM runs on a 5v supply, you can then pick up a switched feed from the fuse box, located behind the side panel on the drivers side. When i get a chance later tomorrow I'll post some pics of how to do it, any questions just PM me.

I understand one option is to wire in a basic cigar lighter unit behind the dash into which the standard TomTom power plug will fit.

If this has any merit, then where do I pick up a fused feed?

Sorry for the delayed reply, waiting for it to stop raining ;)

Anyway, here's how I connected mine.

1) Remove fuse box cover

Remove the panel under the steering wheel, held on by 3 bolts, one above and left of the fuse box and 2 underneath. Locate the diagnostic port in the lower right hand side of the panel, and pop it out, there are 3 sprung plastic clips that hold it in place.

Front left pin should be a switched 12 volt feed, (but check with multimeter just to be certain, and there you go, connect via a suitable fuse and run power cable, the earth can be picked up locally.

Here is mine run along the gap between windscreen and dashboard to my TOMTOM unit.
