Hi there,
the ESP in Audis is very good.
We have one of my mates B6 2.0FSI on an airfield and turned onto some gravel and the light staretd flashing so we thought we would try it with the ESP off and I sh*t you not it switched ends on us instantly!! And we are both good at controlling cars off road.
Personally, I've had my back wheel clip the kerb whilst overtaking on a bend at a silly speed and I'm certain without the ESP i'd be in a field upside down!!

I agree it's very good, the first time I drove my father's S3 it was an icy night and turned into my friend's road which was was covered in black ice on the bend. The car went light and tried to point itself in the direction of a car parked half on the pavement, at this point I thought it's all over but the car instantly realigned itself sat up and straitened itself out. If it wasn't for the ESP there would have been a quite nasty broadside scrape on the Audi. Very very good. :D

Iv been playing with it off in the rain. Its very very good! A wet roundabout(quiet one!) is a good place to test it, try and get it to understeer and its neigh on impossible! Turn the esp off and the car instantly wants to kill itself/you!

Had a drive with a friends alfa romeo on snow covered road with winter studded tyres and while taking a bend a bit too quick, the ESP kicked in and took us into a ditch ! With it switched off, the car behaves very neutral and it will go where its pointed. I do see the point of electronics working in the background keeping an eye on inexperienced drivers and saving their arses when things happen but, i want to be in control of the car ! I driven hundreds of thousands of miles on icy or snow covered roads and yes, ABS does help when braking but i can do the same thing with the handbrake and with the engine brake. When wheather is bad, a bit of caution does more than any safety systems...
