Please help with my Power steering problem

I had a minor bump in my 04 reg polo and now the power steering no longer works, everything appears to be okay no fluid lost and all connections appear okay. i've had VAG COM running with a few fault codes but still cannot figure out whats wrong? I've been hunting for an answer for weeks and have only found similar probem with a skoda where the battery has been discharged/disconnected like mine has been, but can this really disable my PAS?

here are the fault codes...

1 Fault Found: 01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500)
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent

1 Fault Found: 01288 - Terminal 30: Steering Assist
07-00 - Signal too Low

This fault no longer appeas but it was still presesnt and PAS hasn't worked since
