View Full Version : Blackberry and International + Prefix
Hi
My wife has an 8700 and new Audi A4. Everything works perfectly other than when trying to dial phonebook entries using the Audi Controls. All her numbers are entered as +.... and for some reason the international dialing prefix for the country you are in is not added. If you dial from the phone that works fine. I'm not sure if this a problem with the car or with a setting on her BB.
Any help would be appreciated

Not sure I understand, why is the prefix for the country you are in relevant.
Local network should sort that out. Only need a zero then the number, unless in the US.
If you are in the US, then good luck. The network configs are so screwed over there, could need 00 or +
The issue is that all numbers in the phone are captured as +2712345 etc. so normally if you dial from the phone in which ever country you are in the network operator would add the international dialing prefix. So here in Dubai the number dialled would be 002712345.
The problem is that once the Audi and the BB have sysnced the address book and you do a number lookup it will show +2712345 but when you press dial, it tries to dial 2712345 i.e. the 00 prefix is not added. I can't figure out if this is a problem with the Audi MMI or the BB?

ok, thats an interesting one.
What happens if you put in 00 instead of + .....this "should" be the same...alternate is put *+number as star is a pause, and may force it to dial the +
If I change the + to 00 on the BB and the number updates on the Audi side it dials correctly. I tried again this morning and if you look at the BB display it shows the number being dialed as +2712345 but the connection fails and says invalid number. Haven't tried adding a * but will try - going to be a bit of a pain to add to add *'s to all of the address book entries.
I have a WM device (HTC TyTN II WM 6.1) but for some reason it doesn't transfer the phone book. The remote SIM access is enabled but still no joy.

I have all my numbers in my phone book entered '+44' '+001' etc. and they all dial perfectly, so it looks like as long as you have the country code entered as well it should be fine.
I'm using a Pearl 8120 btw.

They are all entered with the country code eg. +27111231234 (South Africa) and it doesn't work. It seems to be something to do with the + when the MMI passes the number to the BB. If you look through the phone book on the Audi side it will display the numbers at the bottom of the screen as +27111231234 but when you press dial it then shows 27111231234 - the + is missing
Some further news - got a BB 8820 to work and my HTC WM device (after a hard reset). Seems to me that the 8700 my need an OS upgrade
