2.0T (211bhp) Avant

28.7 mpg

I know it could be better, I'm a bit heavy on the accelerator at times.

2.7 multitronic now done approx 3000 miles averaged 41.2 over all from new pretty mixed town/A road use

on the motorway at 70ish will get 45-46 on a long journey

if i push it on A/B roads 35- 38

round town in heavy traffic sometimes as low as high twenties

much better than i was expecting - i found A6 2.7 multi gets 5mpg less than all the above and i was expecting similar from the A4

(all the above from trip computer - would imagine if i took the trouble to calculate real averages from the amount i'm putting in the tank v's actual miles covered it would be about 10-15% less than the figures quoted - that what i've found when i've been bothered to check with my previous audi's)

Thank you all.The reason i ask is i have a customer who disputes the mpg claims to his 2.0 tdi multi and i think the average 40 mpg he records on the DIS display is about right.

the figures stated in the brochures are figures set on a rolling road and are there to be used for comparison purposes between vehicles. The figures are produced in the same way for all manufacturers so that they can be used as a comparison of different vehicles. EU Directive 80/1268/EEC (as last amended by 2004/3/EC) describes the tests which the all new cars on sale after 1 January 2001

DIS is a calculation so cannot be as accurate as measuring the actual amount of fuel used against the miles travelled

2.7 S-line
27-10-2008, 06:51 PM
i checked during the last tank full to see what my real average is ie) - actual fuel into the tank and mileage covered - came to 37.75 mpg vs the DIS's average during that tank full of 42.6 mpg

so my DIS is a little on the optimistic side but no worse than my previous cars have been

B8 TDI
27-10-2008, 07:40 PM
2.0 TDI - 3500 miles on the clock

35.3 MPG average over the last 3000 miles

20% highway with heavy traffic
80% bumper to bumper town traffic

100% Lead foot

improves considerably on long trips.

edit: note to self, do not use US gallons on a UK site

2.0tdi manual s-line 08 plate
1700 miles
filled up last time 54.15 litres = 11.911 gallons
Did 419 miles before filling up again
so approx 35mpg

Driving
Rush hour commute from Croydon to Crawley and back daily
6 miles across Croydon to M23 stop start traffic constantly
14 miles or so M23 Croydon to Crawley, averaging anything from 30-40mph to 90-100 mph (ahem) when conditions allow:Blush2:
Dont always use shift light but try not to rag it either
Computer shows around 38-39mpg on Trip 1 avergae display

Strangely it used to read over 42 mpg when i first got it in August, not sure whats changed:Blush:

Any early (and lucky) drivers of an A4 Avant 2.0 tdi (170) care to comment on the MPG with that particular engine?......I'm waiting for my s-line version and am keen to know what the "real life" MPG experience is.

Had the car for about five weeks. Done 1400 miles, DIS says 44.2mpg, mostly done following traffic on flowing motorway and A roads. Trips have varied from 49mpg with a very light right foot, to 33 - 36mpg in stop start city centre or fast (90ish..?) motorway/A road driving. Not had air con on for most of the time.

2.0tdi SE 170ps Avant manual, Meteor Grey, panoramic roof, black milano leather, sports seats, cruise, phone prep low, parking advanced.

2.0tdi 143 manual, 1500 miles. I can get 50 mpg on the 25 miles to work, 90% motorway, or in the mid-40's around town.

Average mpg since new is 45.something, if that were reset I'd expect high 40's though.

2.0 TDI 143 manual -

9,700 miles - all time average reading 45.5 mpg (increasing very slowly over time)

My car seems consistent with most others here, can very easily get mid 50's but my fun gland keeps activating.

Record mileage on a tank so far is 588. Either my foot or some 'event' on the M4 keep conspiring against the magic 600 mile tank :(

4200 miles in a 2.0TDi (143), manual - 48.7 mpg according to the computer. Variety of short, around trips (5 to 10 miles) and 30 + miles, mainly A roads. Occasional 100 miles trips mainly motorway.

On the 30-40 mile trips on A roads typically see 51mpg

how many miles do you get from a full tank ? - those seems very poor mpg's for a 2.0 tdi if its a manual

yes i'd say thats pretty low

i was getting 550+ before refilling when i was driving the 2.0 Tdi manual (and i never let it get too near empty so could have squeezed 20-30 miles more )

Yeah, I agree - that seems low. My full tank average is probably around 550, and I am fairly heavy footed.

480?
is this low

also i now drive a 2.7TDi mutitronic

- which is a heavier car ,with a smaller fuel tank , it's an automatic and now its run in i drive a bit too quickly :D

- even given all those factors i still get over 500 from a tankfull so i'd say 480 is way too low unless you spend a lot of time in heavy traffic

20 miles per day 10 to and from work average speed 65(ish)never took the car beyound 80 yet not worth the risk round here to many numptys that pull out without looking on dual carriageway

Very similar to yours. I basically do 20 miles per day (10 miles to and from work) on mainly B roads. I usually get around 39mpg. I do not do many motorway miles but when I do it's usually short runs and get around 43mpg.

I usually fill the tank, reset the trip and then when I fill up again, note the milage on the trip and how much fuel I put in. That way I know the values are accruate...

I think I am getting about 41-42mpg at the moment, butI haven't checked recently...

2.0 TDI S-Line manual, 2000 miles, mixed start-stop commute, 37.1 mpg, 500 miles per tank. Previous B7 2.0 TDI S-line saloon used to be more optimistic on range but ended up delivering same number of miles between fills.

2.0TDI 143 SE Avant Multi - 2000 miles, 50:50 rural/mway, computer reads 42.5, actually 40. Getting about 480miles, but tend to refuel as soon as light comes on (put in about 52ltr).

I must admit I tend to run mine right down. I have been to the 'No miles left' stage several times and when filling it, the absolute max I can get in is 60 litres. Which by my calculations means there are still 5 litres still sloshing around in the thing!

To be honest I was hoping for nearer 45 mpg just running about on B roads. My average speed for the 10 mile run to and from work is around 21mph which is quite telling.

well filled up today 51.9 ltrs 419.8 miles reckon mpg sits at 36 which is the same as the freelander i had on same journey unless my calculations are wrong
converted to 11.4 gallons with fuel gauge sitting in 1 red notch from the bottom so no idea how much left doubt theres 3 gallons must watch top gear and buy a jag.?

2.0 TDI manual 4800 miles since end June

At the moment I am a bit disappointed with my mileage. When I part exchanged my B7 (32,000 miles on the clock) I could get 43 to 45 mpg around town, at the moment I'm only getting about 38/39.

Things may improve but I think my main problem is that the engine revs more slowly and so, with the B7 where I could get into fifth at about 26 mph, I can only get comfortably into fifth with the present car at about 32/33 mph. This low revving will be a big advantage on motorway journeys where, with the other car, I noticed that at 70 mph the revs were at about 2150, but with the present car are only at about 1900.

The lower revving means that when I am going around town, especially if there are speed cameras around, I have to do it in fourth rather than fifth.

I try to be careful with my speed. A friend got done for 31 in a 30!!
