Advice on lowering an 80?
DON'T DO IT!!!!
It will ruin the ride and how it drives.
But....if you are determined to do it, easy job, should only take half a day if you are a heavy coffee drinker like me :)

O yeah, I assumed spring clamps would be used  Never take a top nut off pointing towards your face LOL.

As for rusted nuts, I guess I'm just lucky, 'just' a case of removing the leg and getting the spring out :)

The right combination of springs/shocks would be the right way to go but for the sake of advice, don't just go for a cheap set of lowering spring on the standard shocks, the car will ride harder and will 'skip' over bumps.
I have driven an 80 that was lowered using just springs and it was awful compared to my standard setup. All I can guess is that the car hadn't had the tracking re-checked afterwards which might explain the 'skipping' over the bumps.
If you want to see a set of springs changed in 4 hours, bring me a car, I'm up for that challenge and I'll do it on the street :)

Maybe this is the advice Mr Diamondbrit was looking for.

In summary, Andy gives the best advice. If you are going to lower the car, go for a spring/shock combination, you know it makes sense. :biggthump

PS, he did say he was only waiting for springs so no seized inserts to worry about.

Eibach pro-kit dampers and springs are among the best I've ever had on my car. because they wouldn't lower more than 30mm I got rid of mine in favour of some coilovers - sometimes I regret that, and now I'm hoping to find some coilovers with the comfort of the eibachs, but with the lowered stance of coilovers.

Just to repeat (yawn - I know) what has been said above.

If you're planning on just doing springs, have a rethink. If your shocks are still original they'll have a lot of age/wear & tear on them already.

If you can stretch to shocks and springs, you'll not be disappointed.
