View Full Version : I have a cunning plan.........
Many of us have a deep love of our cars, some have dreams of building our dream machines, but few ever turn those dreams into reality....
17 years ago Ken Imhoff watched "Cannonball Run" and decided he too wanted a Lamborghini Countach, and proceeded to build one..... in his basment!!!
100% hand crafted Countach out of aluminum and a space tube frame. All aluminum body formed on a wooden buck using an English wheel. His own design space frame with Corvette hubs and custom A-arms. Mated to a ZF-25 5 speed. S.S. 180 degree headers GT40 design "bundle of snakes" Boss 351 bored stroked to 377 515hp 48 IDA Webbers. One off TransAm BBS rim shells to his own center section wheels. Custom brake package to fit 16" wheels. Fuel cell, twin aluminum sprint car (Howe) radiators. All aluminum interior with leather dash, Momo seats and 5 point harness, on board halon fire bottle. quick release steering wheel. Low to the ground at 2700 lbs. 100% body correct by using a real Countach to measure from.

Top stuff, this planet needs more mentalists like Ken doing pointless projects just because they can. I may well try and build a Sherman tank in my loft out of baby food tins, I've plenty of them lying round.
Crasher - you must have a design for a Sherman tank lying round in amongst your modelling stuff.

I am with the Captain and Paul. It sure is a mean feat but the question is why? I bet he could of bought a real one cheaper, IIRC it even has a yank engine in. The real thing would be a better car IMHO.
I am probably missing the point.

We think it's meant to be an Enzo, I've no idea what it's made from, I believe MR2's are popular for such projects.

I have started the project to make an Aston Martin Vanquish out of my Mum's Ford Fiesta. I feel I am qualified having watched so many Blue Peter episodes when I was young and will be using a prit stick and multi coloured paper for the bodywork :D
It's all a bit silly isn't it :Blush2:
I see that opinion is divided amongst the VWAudi forumites, and while I'm not particularly fond of the Ferrari kit (and i use the term Ferrari loosely) I am impressed at the level of craftsmanship used to create the countach.

MR2's are turned into 355 replicas, (http://hometown.aol.co.uk/curld7/myhomepage/auto.html) some are very good. Peugeot 406 Coupes become 360's. (http://www.extreme-sportscars.com/360/home_360.htm)
though extreme sportscars do, do a 360 based on an MR2. I actually think from the outside the 360 looks very good.
But all this misses the point in owning one of these cars. You see the people who buy the kits really are the real knobs, they want you to think they own a Ferrari. And let me tell you the price of some of these kits when complete are not a million miles away from a 348 or 355. Of course they cost a lot less to run and a far more reliable, but they sound and feel **** and are plastic

I can tell when I see an F355 based on an MR-2, the rear end gives it away for me.
But I would never have known that 360 was acutally a 406! That's an excellent kit.
But as Malc says, if you make something like that, the term "dreamer" has to be applied! :p

Why thank you, Senior Donkey! :) *bows*
I still have my lessons in life to learn. I've learnt a good few already. (The first one is that bus drivers don't like you over taking them!)
I find chavving a car is a complete waste of money and time! Moderate tweaks, yeah! Engine upgrades, yeah! But be careful what you do with it.
I personally like the OEM feel of the S3. There are only a few things I'd like changed, and thats the really cool LiquidS3 gauge I posted up in the A3/S3 section, I'd like Cruise Control and Sat Nav integrated so I don't have nasty marks on my windscreen from the Navman.
I'd like to replace a few OEM pieces which are supposed to be quite flimsy. Diverter Valve is supposed to make a MASSIVE difference on the S3, smoother gear changes, better boost pressure, etc. Remap and new exhaust to follow when I have more money.
Other than those few things I don't want anything changed on the car. I like it the way it is! :)
Having said that, my gearknob has the nice painted surroundings flaking and it's cutting into my hand on gear changes if I'm not careful. The new 8P gear shift looks lovely on the 8L!
Image belongs to S3-CHRIS off Audi-sport.net! Ownership where it's due! He's got a lovely and I mean LOVELY Denim Blue S3! Very rare colour and a wet dream on wheels! ;)

I too like a good OEM feel. I've modded my A6 a bit, but all using genuine parts. I'd like to add the DIS and cruise control, but I have the wrong dashboard so that could get very expensive! :aargh4:
Mechanically, all I would do to the A6 is possibly fit a DPT tuning box in future when money is available. Having forked out on a shed of a Skoda where the oil level falls faster than a whores knickers (;) :p), and the A6 needing a service in 1000 miles, and now the T5 looking a bit dodgy... the tuning box will be left for a while me thinks...

LOL! Why do whores wear knickers anyway?! :p
Actually, come to think of it, they probably don't. :aargh4:
I've heard replacing the dash is a VERY expensive job. Personally I wouldn't fancy it! With my lack of experience with these things I'd leave the vitals to an expert for a good car! If it was a saxo I'd tinker all day with it!
I have my fingers crossed it's just the fuel Daddy Donkey! ;) Having said that, It would mean I'd have to use normal fuel this weekend. Which would be cheaper in all fairness. :)
Just looked up the DPT box and it sounds a lot better than I originally thought it was! That would be a very nice upgrade!
A6 is a very nice car! I was behind one heading back home last night and I have to admit I liked it! Previously I was put off by the size but maybe it just sounds bigger than it actually is.
The OLD A6 (10+ years!) was actually the same size as the newer A4's, which is bizarre! :)

As for the whores... not a clue!
DPT is a tad expensive don't you think? £325... hmm... aye it will have to wait a few weeks/months... years??? :aargh4:
Mine is the C5 shape A6 which is the slightly older one now. I didn't fall in love with it when I saw it on the forcourt, nor was I jumping up and down screaming after parting with the dollar for it. It was the wife and Chris who liked it, and the pair of them were dead happy about it.
My views on the A6 have changed a bit though now, I've began to like it. Touch wood - its been very reliable, the only non-maintenance problems were the alternator pulley bearing and the remote central locking (which I screwed up myself and required an SOS from Crasher before the wife put me in an early grave!).
I thought the back end was a bit bland, but I've added a boot spoiler so that's okay now. :)
And somebody paid a fair bit of attention to that Wikipedia page! :p Its hard to think isn't it?

Yes, I do agree, a bit on the expensive side, but maybe a worthwhile christmas present for yourself?! :p
If you have the boot spoiler then I think that makes all the difference! It's a lovely car when it looks just right! The extra's always cost ££ though. :(
How did you screw up the central locking? :p Which reminds me... I still want that beep when locking and the auto-locking at over 15mph. :)

Christmas present? The wife doesn't love me THAT much! :p
Central locking, bear in mind at this point I only had the shareware VAG-COM. I bought another key which I wanted to code to the central locking, not to the immobiliser because I switched the transponders. I found a few ways to do it, by using various key in door and key in lock combinations.
It didn't seem right, so I swapped the keys around. BIG MISTAKE!
Flash of the hazards, the car locked, neither of the original 2 working keys nor the new one worked anymore! So now with only the traditional key in door technique, if you unlocked the car and didn't get the key in the ignition within 45 seconds the alarm would go off! :o
Wife went beserk, called on the trusty VWAF and its members to get me out of it. Was advised to purchase full edition VAG-COM, and then Crasher sent me detailed instructions to code the central locking back. Saviour that man! :beerchug:
And regarding your speedlocking, I could explain how to do it if I knew whether your S3 has long coding or the other coding whatever its called. :D

LOL! I think I would have had a right old laugh watching you screw things up! LOL!
I don't have VAG-COM yet, so I wouldn't be able to do it anyway! :) I was thinking of seeing if Audi will do it for me for a tenner or so. If not they aren't getting my money and I'll wait till I buy either a VAG-COM or the V-Checker Pro unit off Esh! I'm going to have to wait now though seeing how I've just been told I need road tax on my A3 (just before I sell it! :() and I also have the better halfs birthday, then my mum's birthday coming up! Then Christmas! Eeek! Better get saving I think!

if i saw the guy that owned that i'd slap him very very hard, the mk1 mr2 that i had was very good and nothing could touch the 'hair dressers car' that i had. veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery long first gear meant you could nail anything off the lights with your 122hp and no weight, want to make a track car mk1 but gotta get the mrs' approval first, its a dont knock them till you have tried one car, i doubt a hair dresser could get a fifth out of what i got out of it :biglaugh: speedo read 147mph on castle coombe on a very hot and sticky day before they put the chicanes in. speedo was out of course, but by how much? that was with no passenger seat, no spare wheel or trim inside car and enough fuel for about 5 laps
