own an Audi S6 Avant on a 2004 plate. She now needs the 40K service and was wondering if somebody out there can recomend a good indie around the southampton or winchester area.

You're in luck, theres a fair few vw/audi specialists in and around Southampton/Hampshire. Visited one today infact called IGS in Eastleigh, Southampton 02380 629606, very friendly. Another called Independent car sales and servicing, also in Eastleigh, just called for a cambelt quote for my tdi passat, they can be reached on 02380 273333, very competitive. I have some more too, I just googled 'vw specialist hampshire' and wrote a few down. Hope these help.

I know it's just outside Hampshire, but there a couple of good indies in Salisbury. I use M & M Auto Engineers - very good service and value - they found a problem with my pre-heat system that the official dealer couldn't. Try Steve at Monks Auto, he's not very far from The Clump in Chilworth (not sure what trendy name this old pub is called these days) I've been going to him now for just over two years since Autotecnik (where I went for over fifteen years)closed down - he actually trained there many years ago.

I've used Independant Garage Services (IGS) in Eastleigh for CV Boot replacement and 10k service and they are friendly and seem competent. Unlike most other garages, they phone to let you know how things are going and when the car is ready to be collected before you have to chase them!

Also used SJB Autotech in Basingstoke for 40k service and cambelt, also friendly and competent.

I would recommend either of them.
