Have had my new A4 Saloon almost 3 weeks now! :biglaugh: The last few day there has been a lot of rain and when I open the doors puddles fall out!!! Is this the same on all the cars? Never had this on my Passat, however I had a SEAT a number of years ago which did the same and over the winter periods the footwells started to get wet as the trapped door water came inside.

Is this normal?

Cheers

Im not sure if its normal but it certainlydoes it mine. Talking of water and rain, this car gets your feet wet. Rain on the boot, when opened, falls to the back around the edges, down to the top of the bumper and then off the edge on to your feet

I have the same problem on an '03 A4 Avant. If I leave it in the rain overnight, a good cupfull of water falls out of each of the passenger doors when they are opened. Quite annoying and hard to find the cause!

This may be something or nothing but I recently had Audi roofbars fitted for a week to my saloon. Part of the installation requires a thin flap of rubber to be forced behind the chrome trim at the top of the door.

After the bars were removed and it may be coincidence, I haven't had water problems. I wonder if the trim has moved just that fraction out to make water collection easier?

I noticed today on my B8, after hosing down the car, that when I opened the door to get in, a big pool of water fell all over the edge of the drivers seat, both the back and bottom side of the seat.

My '03 Passat, doesn't have this problem at all, as it has protuding chrome strips either side on the roof, that stops the water falling inside the car, when the door is open.

I can't help noticing that nobody seems to be able to offer a solution to this problem. I'm still having the problem, and can't see anywhere where the water could be seeping through.

I'm going to try something that was suggested to me outside the forum. It's not really a cure, just a temporary solution:-
Tape or glue a very small piece of pipe, or something else to kink the rubber at the bottom of the door seal. Alternatively, even cut a small drain hole in the rubber in order to allow the water to drain out so when the door is opened in the morning, my feet won't get splashed. Hopefully it shouldn't allow water to be washed back in when driving at speed in the rain!

I think you have hit the nail on the head, the rain gets in the hinge side of the door and runs down and gathers between the inner door seal, the soft bit and the big rubber strip on the bottom of the door on the outside. In the older models this caused the big rubber strip fittings to rust and eventually need replacing, it doesn't seem to happen on the newer models but it still doesn't solve the problem. What is needed is a drain hole, as you have said, through the strip, but at the front, middle or back? and do you want to start making holes in the strip. I think it is something we might have to put up with and hope that Audi read these posts and pick up on the problem for future improvements!

yes does it on mine. Near the hinge, but at the bottom?

Confirmed that this does happen on my B8 2010 too. I thought it a bit odd and was going to create a thread on this when I remembered, but this is exactly what I have seen.

Absolute buckets of water pouring out of somewhere in the door when it's been raining. It was when I opened the driver's door that I noticed... I don't open the passenger door so much, and the rear doors hardly at all, so does the water just stay there? Should I open all four doors after it has rained for a prolonged period of time to "empty them out"?

As I hadn't tested all doors, I had wondered if it was anything to do with the whistling that I, alone, seem to hear from the driver's window at higher speeds... and I still plan to take the car in to my dealer for that at some point early in the new year.
