Hi,

I'm completely new to this sort of thing, so please dont laugh at my ignorance! Basically, the car I have has just the standard VW factory fit 'Beta' (I think) cassette player and I want to fit a CD player. As far as I can see, I've got 3 options;

1. Go to VW dealership and ask them to fit the standard 'gamma' CD player so as it looks as if it were fitted with the car. However, this is probably quite expensive, (£200 as an extra when my ma bought the car).

2. Get a 'gamma' cd player on ebay and pay someone to fit it

3. Get a third party CD player for about £50 from Halfords and get them to install it for me.

So, whats the best thing to do?

Hiya mate!
First of all DO NOT buy a Gamma CD Player for £200 off VW it simply aint worh it.

On your model of Polo your head unit will come out very easily! Trust me its really easy to do.
You can buy a Gamma CD player off eBay and it will simply be case of removing your old head unit connecting 2 cabled and away you go!

Or you can buy an aftermarker head unit and have it installed... You will get MUCH better sound out of an after market one and it will prob cost you the same amound.

If you have any more questions let me know!

Thanks mate - I've decided to get a different CD player, one with USB, Bluetooth and all that jazz. Phoned VW and they quoted me over 200 Sterling for the CD player itself and another 40 to fit it.

Thanks for your help

The Kenwood head units that Halfords have got on offer for about £50/60 sound great for the money, we had a few on special where I used to work and you really can't go wrong for the money. ;)

If you want USB and inbuilt handsfree etc. I'd try to pay a bit more but as stated by Sooty, you'll get a much better sound from a decent aftermarket unit.
