I have a 2002 130 GT TDI. After 5 miles the ESP light comes on in the dash. when you turn the car off it will not come on again for a 5 miles.
The dash light is driving me nuts - is this a common problem ?
is it easy to fix.

You would need to get the car plugged into VAG-COM or some other diagnostics equipment to find out the exact casuse of the problem but I'd guess its probably something like a faulty ABS sensor

there is a chance that it is going to be one of the sensors in your dash, you will have either two seperate sensors(yaw rate sensor and a lateral sensor) or you might have a combined yaw rate sensor and lateral sensor. not sure how much it costs, it located under the dash next to the stearing column, i dont think it will be an abs sensor as you have esp and that uses differant sensors, traction control (TCS) uses the abs sensors to detect wheel slipage, also if it was an abs sensor you would be getting the (ABS) light on as well.
i have got an on going problem with the esp on my 4motion, i had it scaned and i was told i needed a new yaw rate sensor at a cost of £398 (part number (1J0907657B) after doing that i had the sensor coded to the engine the light stayed off for 2miles now i have got to take the dash apart again so i can change the other one. but get it scaned first that will tell you, hope this is of help.

My brother had this on his 150 TDi and it was the brake pressure sensor switch. Cost about £50 to put right and his light never came on again...
