6000 miles and out of oil

as topic states ive only done 6000 miles in my a4 2.0tdi 170ps and oil light came on apparently out of oil , when i put litre of oil in i noticed oil in car is jet black as im new to deisels is this normal or should it be as clear as when you put it in any suggestions many thanks sef

Read your owners hand book.
all vag engines use oil and the pd is no exception with the consumption figure of half a litre per 1000 miles and the especially from new.The oil will be dark and long life 3 is greenish to dark brown in the first place as there are lots of soot particles in the oil that is why it is black.Fear not as the consumption will improve and you should have been supplied with a 1litre top up from pdi

as a8 says,it will get better.my 170 was the very same.now up on 20k and oil consumption is an awe-full lot less.
i do agree with you on the color of the oil,I'm going to change the oil myself in 8k or so miles as i just don't trust the long life service intervals,for the sake of 40 odd quid I'd be happier having fresh oil rather than waiting 18k.
