Hi All,

I'm new to this forum so Hi to everyone :biglaugh:

I have been experiencing a problem for the past week to 10 days when when I use the indicators, either direction, they either come on full and don't go off (don't blink) or they will come on then blink really fast then go off.

Has anyone had this problem before? Or even heard of someone else who has?

I'm not sure if it's related but my interior light, above the rear-view mirror, has sometimes not come on when I opened the door.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Picco

Fit a new hazard light switch first (the relay is incorporated inside) as these are the most failure prone part and the easiest to replace. The next step would be the column switch but these are much more difficult to replace involving removing the air bag and steering wheel then the air bag coil/steering angle sensor (if the car has ESP) before the column cover and switch set can be removed so the indicator switch can be separated from the wiper switch.

hi Crasher, do you know where I can find a new hazard light switch? Are there any sources online that would sell me one of these?

Thanks.

Well you could be really radical and go to one of those shiny big glass buildings called a VW dealer and buy one from there for £16.50, or is the just to old fashioned for the “e generation”?

yeah, that's not a problem. For the hazard light switch is it just a case of prising ot out? Anything to watch out for? I'm trying not to mark the dash if possible.

No you can’t lever the switch out, you will damage the panel. You have to remove the switches at the end and then remove the switches either side of the hazard switch to allow you to release the spring clips holding the hazard switch in, I find it easier to remove the radio and release it from below.

thanks Crasher, the closest VW dealer to me is the one at Ayr. So i'll hopefully manage to pick one up from there. Should get the two other switches out no problem (i hope). Will post back with some positive results......fingers crossed.

I bought a new hazard switch from the VW dealer in Ayr last night and went out tonight to fit it and it worked it treat! Cheers! I've got a louder, fresher sounding indicator tick noise now :-)

I would recommend removing the cup holders if you can, there's two silver clips on either side, just flick them out and it'll pop out.

For anyone looking for this in the future the part number is 1JO953235J01C and it cost me £17.08 all in.
