Hey guys, I have an urgent question about my VW Golf Mk4 1.6 auto.

I've had repeated problems with the engine over heating and running cold, with a blown head gasket being the result atleast once. Got conned into supposedly getting my engine rebuilt (1400gbp) , but just over a year later, my engine has started to overheat again (they have gone bust or changed name so can't take the car back to them). :(:zx11:

I took it to another garage, and they have said that my engine oil and water are mixing, which means either the head gasket is damaged or the cylinder head is cracked. (They also said I was losing water and it was not in the bottle???)

They told me the job would be to replace either the head gasket or cracked cylinder and fit a new water pump with a metal impellar (toprevent the damage from occuring again) for approx. 500-700 GBP, or that I should just get a refurbished engine placed in as I have had many problems in the past. :(

Mt best quote for the refurbished engine has been 795 pound from a place in east london (advertised in exchange and mart), but apparently they said I would have to pay extra for a water pump... should this not be a part of the engine already? And if it isn't, does that mean the cam-belt will not be replaced either, as I have heard the plastic parts on the belt can break and cause major repair work and costs...

I'm really confused and would much appreciate anyones expertise on this matter.

Thanks!
