Does anybody know weather the new 2009/8 A3 rear tail light will fit on to a 2007 A3? Found these on VAGparts.com and i've seen them working on a new A3 i followed home one night and the fibre optic running lights look ace. Link to the rear tail lights from vagparts is:
https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.onean...dex.shopscript (https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1548d3753a8cc21/shopdata/index.shopscript)
I've e-mailed them to ask if they would fit on my car but have had no reponse. Any ideas?

Regards,
According to the an american a3 site, the rear lights of the new a3 are a direct swap over.
However the front lights are not, as the bonnet and grill etc have changed shape slightly, so will not fit the old shape.
They have probably done this on purpose to stop people putting the council estate lights on their older a3's :D

Yes it is a direct swap my friend although wiring harnesses need to be bought as the new lamps have different plug connections i got mine from kufatec, although oempl.us sell them aswell

Sweet, sounds good, how did you get the lights re-coded? Did you go to audi or have you got the VAG Com cable and software?

:1zhelp:Unfortunately i've not had them re coded yet, so still driving with the brake light bulbs and fog light slightly lit when not using the brake or fog,
I did see them on a new sportback, obviously working the way they are supposed to and they looked gr8, i have never needed to use vag com so if you hear of any one getting theirs recoded hit me back, obviously it will need to be explained as if you were teaching a kid,
Or if you know what i should say to my local friendly technician please let me know as i want this rectified ASAP
Cheers

so in a nutshell the lights do fit fine, but need a new wire harness? (as the lights are fibre optic) If i got them, they wouldn't be for a sportback, but for a 3 door ver of the A3.
Did you get yours working fine in the end?

Install is easy,
some splicing is involved to power the optic on the inner taillights but you wont have to do this on a three door,
I am still waiting for my friends vag com to recode the lights,
I have got some good idiot proof instructions on how to enter the codes(available on "fortitude"):biglaugh:

The lights will fit fine mate, just make sure that you buy the correct lights for your car, there are two different shapes, one set for the 3 door and one for the 5 door. You will need a wire harness to go with to which i believe vag parts are working on, if they have not already made. As Mart4 said above, there is a problem with the fact that the older cars were never programmed to use the fibre optics so they do stay on slightly whilst not used. I have been despirtly trying to find a solution to this, even contacted the technitions at audi to see if they knew how to solve this, to which they said they had never tried it. Have not bought them yet as i would like to know how to make them work properly first.
Hope this helps,
Mart.

What is fortitude? Have you found a solution to the lights staying on slightly? Have you any shots of your car lights working?

Fortitude is an american site related to "vw vortex" you will find the install in the a3/8p section and the thread is "LED TAILS INSTALLED",
Harnesses are available from "kufatec" ,think i paid about 50/60ish euros for them, no pics yet,
install is like i said, idiot proof, even showed me instructions how to work vag com and what codes to use although i dont want to be responsible for any one messing with electrical codes, hopefully i will get my mate to borrow vag com this week, i was going to take car to audi myself but apparentley it is a 30 sec job that anyone can do with vag com diagnostics,
all lights work fine but both brake bulbs in each outer lamp is lit very slightly you could leave them like this but as you will see, they look a million times better when only the optics are lit,
hope this helps:biglaugh:

Can I ask a quick question on the rear reg plate light. There are two lights on my 2004 audi a4 and one has packed up. Changed bulb and cleaned connection but still no good,. Assume its not the fuse as the other one is still working.
Any idea how I can test whether current is getting to the metal connection? In my naive way I dangled a wire on it to see if any sparks but there werent any and I doubt whether that would work anyway.
Any thoughts much appreciated!
Cheers
