hi i have smashed a piece of trim off my golf and want to replace it, i have the information on it.
I need to know please what it is called, and if you know, where to get it as cheap as possible. ps it is passenger side

this is a plastic piece of trim located near the passenger tyre under the car, it is screwed to the plastic that is directly under the oil sump.

I know which part you mean. The sump guard is screwed into that. It's a seemingly flimsy bit of plastic, which as BigCol says, could be a splashguard. I'd have to take a look under the car and have another guess. But now you're armed with a VW part number, the VW dealer's parts dept will be able to tell you. It'd start with 1J0, as that's the Mk4 model code. Then you can ask a scrappie if he's gone one, without going though a lengthy preamble each time. :D

yes it is a splashguard and it is very flimsy!! any help is much appriciated and thankyou bigcol and herby0001 for your help so far.
