Hi All, new to this site.

I'm hoping to buy a Mk4 Golf TDI SE Automatic but similar to the threads below, the Airbag light comes on and beeps.

I was hoping this might be a loose connection, however the current owner says they took it to a local (not VW) garage and they said the driver airbag would not work. Apparently it needs the driver seat and airbag replacing and will cost a lot. Has anyone experienced this before?

If so, how much is it likely to cost to repair or is this one to avoid???

Any help much appreciated.

HPI the car, could have had a bad smash repaired on a budget. Or just move on and find another motor. :(

Cheers Euroslap. I'm confident the car hasn't had a smash as it is owned by a friend who has had it from new- which just adds to the mystery. Don't really want to have to pay a VWdealer £50 to tell me that the airbag needs replacing!
Thanks for the reply.:beerchug:

Is there any record of the fault code anywhere? it could be a bad conection under the drivers seat in its the airbag in the seat and ot the drivers airbag in the steering wheel. Airbags rarely fail nomally it is wiring or connections at fault.

Thanx for your reply- i've not got a fault code but then it hasn't been seen by a VW dealer. I'm hoping it is just a wiring fault as the local garage just said 'live with it' as they couldn't find the cause of the fault.

Can't remember where I read this but I remember seeing something about a faulty air bag and it being the connection under the seat as the wires run alongside the runners that the seat are on, either it can be a break in the wire or a dirty connection, you can unplug the connections and clean them with a cotton bud dipped in contact cleaner.
