Does anyone know how to update the MMI software. I read in this forum somewhere that it is possible to download updates from www.audi.de/mp3 (http://www.audi.de/mp3) with the newest update allowing protected aac playback, which currently doesn't work via my iPod.
I have downloaded what appears to be the latest one (although it's all in German), the problem is I've no idea how I would apply this. I have the iPod interface, but as far as I aware no usb connection point.
Does anyone know how the update should be applied? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, picked up my A4 on the 1st Sept, I have to say I absolutely love it, fully loaded with toys and fantastic to drive!

You need the USB adapter 4F0 051 510 G
1. Load the driver update on your PC. Unpack the zip file and copy the unpacked bin
file on an empty USB stick.
Note: The bin file must be in the root (top folder) of the USB stick. The Audi music
interface does not recognise files in subfolders.
2. Select the Audi music interface as active audio source.
3. Connect the USB adapter with the Audi music interface
and follow the prompts,it takes a couple of mins to complete

Thanks for the info. The file I've downloaded is AMI_update_080423.bin, how do I check that this is a newer version than the one installed, or will it check when trying to update?
I have looked for the software version of my current MMI setup, however there doesn't seem to be a useful version no. anywhere. I do get four rows of numbers when a look at version no. but this doesn't seem to tell me much - can you help?

post the readings on the display as you may also need to update the mmi sw version via cd rom at the dealer

Your ami software is fine so i suggest you either restore your ipod to the earlier software version recorded on the itunes site or flash the ami via the saved usb file.
I will double check your sw versions in the morning as i have some more info on another memory stick:beerchug:

You say the ami software is okay. If that's the case what effect will the bin file have via usb update? Is this updating something else?

As your vehicle is 09/2008 i need to check my mmi sw table to confirm if you need cd rom update as i suspect you ami version is the latest version. The usb flash replaces the ipod driver where as the cd rom updates the ami software

Thanks, I will order the usb cable anyway. I can then at least update the iPod driver. With regard to the ami software, I'll look out for your post.
Thanks again for your help...

Try this.
Save a track on a usb stick, connect it to the AMI (in AMI setup, set repeat/mix section to off),select using hard key < and then soft key manual and press info.
The Driver version is shown under the track.

Not sure what I was doing but the number displayed didn't appear to be a driver number, it seemed to relate to the track.
Anyway I tried loading the downloaded bin file, this just gave me the message no new audio update found. Then I copied a track to the stick, played this via the AMI and when i re-attached my iPod it froze. After resetting my iPod the audiobook files now play fine, along with everything else.
Thanks for the help, it looks like we've got there in the end.
One thing you might be able to help me with, I downloaded the update file and instructions from www.audi.de/mp3 (http://www.audi.de/mp3) , is there anywhere on the uk site this can be done with english instructions?
Cheers...

Software updates for the Audi music interface will be from the MMI software version 42.2.0 supports. On reading the press release, please stand on the MMI button "setup" and then the soft "Settings". In the first row on the MMI screen can now MMI software version read, for example "SW: D3-HU 42.2.0." Here, the number is greater than or equal to 42.2.0. If that's the case, they can with a standard USB stick and the Audi music interface cable for USB Type A "(available in the Audi original accessories) software update. Users of a lower MMI software version or without "the Audi music interface cable for USB Type A", please contact an Audi partner.
Please note in the implementation of the update installation instructions. She is in the download for the update, and may also be downloaded separately.
