Does anyone know why the drivers window on my 2000 model Golf Cabrio is playing up? when I drop the window its fine. When i use the 'one touch close' to wind it up, sometimes it goes half way and drops back down, sometimes it does it two or three times before it will close or other times itwill work perfectly as it should. Any ideas appreciated. Im about to take it off the road for the winter so could put it right while the weather is bad.

Sounds like the runners might need cleaning.

IIRC if the windows come against a certain amount of resistance, it fails safe to the open position.

Thanks, I hoped it might be a simple solution, Ill clean the runners and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip

I have a VW Polo and had the same problem, I ended up finding that the conections between the car and the door (leading up to the drivers side control panel on my door) had been worn/broken away (the wires that is) from opening and closing the door. I took the rubber protector thing off that contains them from the body of the car to the door and re-soldered the conections, and bingo working a treat now !!! Dont know if it will be the same with your motor but it worked with mine.

A plastic glass support clip inside the door broke on mine giving similar symptoms.

I tried to fix it, but it was too tricky. Had to take it to VW dealers. Luckily it was a fault recognised by VW (must be quite common) and despite the car having gone beyond its warranty they still fixed it free of charge.

Although it may be a different fault you have.

Good luck
