Would appreciate any experience with the front disc caliper carrier. I've just changed discs and pads - FSIII calipers and 280mm x 22mm discs. The caliper guide pins came out easily on the offside, no problems at all. The nearside top pin was OK; the bottom one was tight unscrewing all the way out because of a distorted thread. The caliper carrier now has a stripped thread and the pin will not tighten. Is the carrier bolted on to the hub casting or is it one unit meaning I have to replace the whole hub to fix the job? :( :1zhelp:

I have a special thread repair set for this job that puts a reverse side fitted pull through insert into the location after boring the location with a special jig and boring tool, I even get called out to the local dealers and other garages to fix this problem on Golf 4 and Golf 5 platform cars. The problem is the thread is M9x1.25 which is unusual and conventional thread repair methods like Helicoils and Time Serts wont work. The only alternative is a new hub carrier which mean you will also need a wheel bearing kit, wheel hub and probably also an ABS sensor.

Thanks for the help - I assumed worse case. I'll have to try my local workshop for a similar fix.
