wifes car. 01 115 gt tdi .flashing glowplug light,ie engine management light.,workshop display, intermittent brake lights. brake lights working, drive a few miles no brake lights.eventually get to work again, drive another few miles same again.new switch fitted a few months ago because of a broken clutch pedal.
its the "flashing" ecu light that has me worried.
surely it should just stay illuminated.and not flash.makes me think its some sort of a fueling problem.
another thing i have noticed is that her mpg computer is very slow at changing as your driving if you no what i mean.

its about 5 to 10 seconds behind,ie foot off throttle its reading 200mpg,foot to the board it still reads 200mpg for ages be4 it changes to something like 16mpg. hope ive described it ok and youse can get the jist of what im tryin to say:D
guess i cant do anything until i get it VAG,d;)

just thought maybe these symptoms would ring a few bells with someone.

Hi m8,

The flashing glow plug light will more than likely be due to a faulty brake light switch. I would imagine the switch that was replaced due to the clutch pedal failing would have been the clutch pedal switch. Get it checked on VAGCOM and see what the faults are.

Hope this helps

hi lee ,no the brake pedal switch was replaced because the garage (back street)that changed the quite common clutch pedal failure somehow broke it:zx11:it wasnt until after they had worked on the car origionaly that the ecu light came on.when they plugged it in to read the code they then admitted that it was prob there fault,so didnt charge for the new switch and the code reading.

i took it to a mates garage on sat morn for him to plug in via his snap on,for free of course:D lo and behold brake light switch. £5 later, codes erased all fixed:D:D

now the mpg readout is working as it should,ie with every throttle response it changes near instantly.

strange how the 2 are linked, you learn something new every day
