Greetings to all,
I had a look at various posts but could not find anyone mentioning similar kind of power steering issue!
I got an Audi A4 1.9 TDI, 130HP, 2004 model and have notices that when the engine gets warm, I can hear the power steering noise (not too noisy but definitely there some squealing sound) when turning the steering wheel from left to right while stationary. If I do this longer (5-10 times) noise gets louder and more noticable. When driving, noise almost goes away. When the car is cold and I do the same thing there is hardly any noise.
I have gone to two local Audi services, one said it is the alternator pulley clutch and the other that it could be the hose from the pump (apparently it is made out of layered material and sometimes these layers fall apart so the fluid that goes thought the hose makes this noise)!!! Sounds hardly plausible! Of course they said it could also be the pump! Hmmm!
Initially, I went to my local mechanic that specialize in VW and Audi vehicles to check if it’s the alternator pulley but he said it was ok! When we turned the engine off the rotor continued spinning. (he said that means its ok). The car has done 89000 km without alternator pulley change. (I know that they last 70-90K)
Anyway, before I go on changing pulley, pump or hose has anyone experienced something similar to point me in the right direction?
Also, while I am here, when do I need to change timing belt, water pump and all that goes with it??? The engine is AVF, 130HP, 1.9 TDI, 2004 model. At the servis some say 90,000 km and others 120,000 km? Who is right?
Many thanks!
Adam
