VW golf GT TDi 2003 power struggle

Hi, I am asking for help on behalf of my father in law, He has a Golf mk 4 GT TDi , 2003. He was driving perfectly fine until he got to 80mph on the motorway, the car began to struggle at this speed, but below 80mph the car is fine. He has had a diagnostics test which says the car has no faults, please can anyone help as we don't want to pay anymore garage costs if it is something that we can do at home. might be the air mass meter on the air filter ,pollen in the air gets through the air filter and sticks to the air mass meter,could be that.its worth cleaning your intercooler out too if u can and have the time.its hard to get to.get the haynes manual on your vehicle that will help u no end.cheers :beerchug:
