Hello
I have a problem with my Golf, its a 1.9 TDi, automatic diesel. The problem is the "over-revving" when the gears change at higher (motorway) speeds. It seems to go from about 2500rpm to abt 4500rpm, before the speed changes. This takes about 4 to 5 secs. I am not a car mechanic, and I would appreciate any help you can provide. The car is 2002 model and has done about 63000 miles. I have just had the cam belt changed as well.
Many thanks
Dilip

Hi VickySorry you're having problems with your Golf Automatic. with my Golf, I took it to a VW dealer, they quoted me £4000 for a replacement automatic gearbox as this was the cause and the part was not something they had in stock. They also said the gearbox was sealed for life and no repairs could be done. these gearboxes usually last "forever", he said...!!I ended up going to a backstreet gearbox & clutch specialist, he stripped, repaired & replaced parts in my gearbox, replaced the gearbox oil all for £700. Touch wood, I have not had any problems since. The garage only gave me 3 months warranty.I would check further before you spend any more money Vicky, not everyone will give you the correct advise, many will try and con you in to relacing parts which may not be the cure.I would see if there is a "Automatic Gearbox" specialist around where you live, see what they charge for looking at it.....sorry if I have not brought you good news, but Golf's are brilliant cars, but upsettingly expensive when something goes wrong....Good Luck!Dilip

I'm not alone then? Just got one from the auctions, very impressed with the Golf tdi till I drove it home from Manchester to Liverpool, it was great under 35 mph but developed a "slipping clutch " feel, I assumed the auto box fluid was low but with the handbrake on hard it still pulls away from a standing start, plenty of converted torque from the torque converter, I'm no expert but I think if the fluid was low it wouldn't move and the rev's would increase, It's in the garage and im waiting till Monday when they can do a diagnostic and give me the bad news? I am encouraged by the strip down and rebuild option and will look for an auto specialist in my area. Thanks Steve1952
