View Full Version : 19's on A4?
Hi all,
Wanted to ask you guys, would 19's mess up the handling and would it have a major affect when going on the motorway?

Hi,
In regards to the drive of the car, 19's on the A4 tend tio give it a very hard drive..
You may have to sort out the camber also...
Cheers

19's will increase your unsprung weight so if you were a racing driving on a track you might notice it but on the road it'll make not a blind bit of difference other than as Rick says it'll make the ride a bit harder.
Dont buy cheap wheels made in China, they buckle easily so a complete waste of money. Only buy european made wheels, it'll cost a little more but less than having to buy a 5th then 6th wheels as you replace the cheap buckled ones!

hi
i have had 19s on my a4 avante for a while now and though the ride is a little harder i havent had any other adverse affects
wish id bought a bigger tyre though theyre soooo easy to curb!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the info,
The reason i thought i will go for a set of 19's is because they will fill the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch. But still making my mind on whether or not i should go for set of 18's instead or leave the standard ones and get them refurbished.

Make you look like a drug dealer. Anyway, they should not fill the arch overall diameter wise any more than the original, you must keep the rolling radius as close to the original as possible or the gearing will be adversely affected.

hi
sorry crasher but i think your being a bit harsh to say that cars with 19s on look like drug dealers cars does that mean that cars that have them fitted as standard from the factory also look like drug dealers cars
i think not
also as far as the gearing is concerned i can honestly say that i have found that at most it puts my speedo mph out by maybe 2 mph in my favour
so no probs there
and as far as the handling goes it feels a much better drive because of the low profile tyres giving you the same affect as a stiffened spring kit
and as far as i am concerned i think the car looks better with the arches filled
of course that is just my opinion

I wouldn't go more than 17". I'm finding the ride on our beautiful roads a bit harsh at times. Personally I don't like the look of 19". I'm with Crasher re the style it gives. A8s look ok on them. Only my opinion! ;)

If the wheel/tyre is to the correct spec, a 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20 all have the same wheel arch gap as the rolling radius must be the same no mater what you fit, if you use a bigger tyre to fill the gap you bugger up the gearing and make the speedo under read chronically and that will land you with a ticket these days.
