Engine Code

Hi everyone.
My 1997 A4 avant 1.8 has the dreaded throttle body problem which has made it cease to tick over. I have decided to buy a new throttle body to replace the faulty one, however. The car had its engine (code ADR) changed before I bought it, it was replaced with a 1.8 engine from a 2001 A3. I cannot find the engine number or code on the engine. Does anyone on here know what code the 1.8 engine from an A3 would have ? I need this to supply the seller of the throttle body so he can supply the correct one for the engine. If anyone knows the part number for the throttle body, even better.

There is quite a few different engine codes, It should be on thetimming belt cover and stamped into the engine on the top front left cornedr (maybe hid under the plastic but you should be able to see it without removing anything)

Thanks for the reply smokie. I've checked the places you suggested and found it has an ADR engine still :confused:

The next question is can I take off the throttle body to get the part number and replace it without having to have it reset. The reason I need to know this is because I'm currently in Switzerland and due to come home early October. I don't want to have to try and find someone to reset it here. The car is due its M.O.T. when I get home and would like to order the new throttle body before I get home so all I have to do is to replace it, get it reset and then the M.O.T. Another question is, is there anyone near Pontypool in South Wales that has a vagcom and can reset the new throttle body ?
