Hi, hopefully someone on here can help with a problem I've got with my MKIV Golf GTi?

The problem is the driver door won't open either using the key in the lock from the outside, using the remote central locking button or if you try to open it from the inside. When you put the key in the lock and turn, the little button rises but it doesn't stay up.

The problem is that the door is already shut, and when I called out the AA they told me that to get to the lock to fix it, you need to take the panel off which won't unclip unless the door is open, so would have to be broken by force. Then once it is off, there is a metal plate inside which would have to be cut by a grinder. He thought it was an electrical problem with the deadlocks.

Has anyone had a problem like this before? As the car is only worth probably £1k, I don't really want to send it off to a garage only to be charged 50% of the cars value to fix it.

Any help and assistance would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Hi - I have the exact same problem - did you manage to get your door open yet - if so how ?
