97-A4TDi Blowing Cold Air

Advice please. My heater blows only cold or slightly warm air, also the water temp gauge is not working. Is this likely to be the thermostat, if so where is it located?

I asked my local garage to look at the problem when I last had it serviced, they suggested perhaps it was the thermostat but to be honest I dont think they could be bothered to investigate as they showed no interest in wanting to fix it.

I'm sorry to say, but it might even be a headgasket problem. It's hard to say without looking at the engine. Is there anything else you can tell us about the car?

1st thing to check is the coolant level

I have had the problem since the end of last winter and dont want to have another where I cannot defrost the windscreen.

The coolent level is fine, I have had the hoses off of the heater radiator? to ensure it is not blocked and it is clean as a whistle.
