Draining Battery A6 Avant 1.9TDI

I have an A6 Avant 1.9TDI which has had to have 4 new batteries from new (3 1/2 years old)!!
Local Audi garage has had the car in for extended periods of time to trace the problem. Numerous 'bits including radio have been replaced.
From chats with other Audi owners (including overseas) a number of people have experienced this problem, but Audi claim mine is a unique problem!?
Anyone else with the same problem and/or any suggestions to pass onto the 'Engineers' at Audi!?

Is the alternator properly charging the battery? Do you make a lot of short journeys, with many starts?

If not, then it would appear you seem to have short somewhere.
