Hi Mate,

There are loads of outfits offering remaps for the 1.8T engines, with some pretty spectacular results for the money. One of the popular ones is Revo-Technik. If you check out the web page, find your local installer, and you can have a free 5 hour trial....no obligations....should give you a good idea.:D

The FMIC can't hurt, and may indeed help, but a lot of people here will tell you that induction kits are not always beneficial to these engines (noisy, water ingress, warm air induction:(), and an uprated panel filter element for the standard box may work better.
That would be my choice anyway.

Cheers, hope this helps! :beerchug:

I've recently fitted a pipercross panel filter. Not really noticed any difference (but then have other breathing issues anyway), but i have since read on here that MAFs do not like oil based filters. There is lots on here about MAFs and the impact they have when they pack up, so i'd keep to a standard filter next time.:o

I had my car re-maped by revo at "Tims VW" in Portsmouth, and take my word for it don't bother with the 5 hour free trial just buy the re-map, I could not believe the difference it made to the car 0-60 in under 6.5sec and i have yet to find out the top speed as I am not brave enough to do it, it cost me £330 and that was the best £330 I had spent in a long time, go for it mate you will not be dissapointed:biglaugh:

You are right there, but you can get non-oiled replacement elements which dont cause the MAF issues, (or simply don't over-oil them), and they will still represent a significant improvement over a standard filter....:beerchug:

Un-oiled K&N on mine, but suspect not a huge difference between the major players, provided you dont put too much oil on!
Remaps to these engines make a huge difference....easy HP!!!:D

I havnt had it on a roling road yet (next weekend) but i was told the re-map i got (Revo) should give me an extra 55bhp, but my 1.8t is a 1998 so you will have to take in to account wear and tear and how many horses have escaped in the last 10 years, if yours is the facelift model they have more torque standard than the earlier model and will remap to 210bhp if i remember rightly, if you go on the revo website it has all the figures on there
