Hi

Just wanted some member knowledge. I purchased a 2001 (51) Passat 1.9TDI at the end of July. I recently drove to Wales for a holiday and on the way a problem occurred. When I put the engine under load (hills etc) it sounds like the gearbox is missing a gear or can't find it (normally at about 42mph). The engine will rev really high and clonk back down a gear. The car is fine if I 'feather' it through the gears, but the same happened when I try to accelerate fast, it got to about 60mph and revved really high, again, if I 'feather' it through the gears, it is fine. It is just a pain when I hit a hill and the safest way of getting up it is to take it out of drive and put it in 3rd.

Also, does anyone know the law on buying a used car from a Garage (no mention of warranty when purchased)

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

Thanks, advice already taken. Took it back to Garage this lunchtime, just have to sit and wait to see what the problem was.

It's in the hands of the Garage at the moment and just waiting on a verdict of what the problem is and what they are going to do about it...

Thanks for the info thou.

Gearbox sorted...

Had to go to a transmission place where they found that the gearbox had been replaced by a recon unit and was still under warranty.

So no dent in wallet.

Off topic...
My indicators have stopped flashing when I lock the car, is this a known fault and any idea on how to fix it?
