My first post... But and old problem! My 1996 A4 1.8 remotes have stopped working. This happened gradually as though the batteries needed replacing (and I did replace them in case both remotes had dying batteries). At first it was only occassionally but now it's terminal. The alarm, immobiliser and doors all work fine from the door locks, but no remote operation any longer  Been reading all the posts so far but not sure where to start. I'd appreciate any help I can get from all you knowledgeable people out there.. Thanks!

their is a thread on here today talking about passat key fobs
read through it,their is a link to an earlier one, which may lead you to the problem you have.
good luck,
stewy.

I assume you replaced the batteries ?
After doing this, you may need to re-programme them, with VAG-COM diagnostic or similar. I know this applies to some of the VAG range but not specifically to your A4, so I could be wrong.

In that case some auto diagnostic equipment would be handy.

Unfortunately can't do anything until I get back home in two weeks time. Thought I'd try to get some ideas on where to start while I have time on my hands.
Thanks, guys, for the advice.
