i have a 2001 passt tdi 130 AWX with 108000 on and when i start it from cold the engine sounds a bit rattely for about 2 seconds and is still a little noisey till it is warm then it is all fine

so what's the problem?
they all do that.every diesel does it.

It Didnt Use To Do It I No Some One With A Awx Audi A4 And That Doesnt Do It

he's lucky then.
if yours didn't do it before then perhaps just an oil and filter change would help to get the oil
up to the top end faster,but believe me,diesels rattle and knock until they warm up.

are you using the correct engine oil,and replacing oil and filter regularly ?

Mine rattles at start up for a few seconds and then goes quiet (well, as quiet as a diesel can) - assume this is when the oil circulates to the top end. Has done this since I bought it (36,000 miles ago) - 2001 TDI 130 model with 112,000 miles.

mine too and is more like a tractor sound compared to some oil burners ive had in the past , but if its working fine then hey ho;)

Normally hydroloc lifters need relpacing,check the cam aswell.My tappet actually worn through and just doing now costing me at least £400 on parts.Mine is a b6.
