I'm considering getting my A6 2.7tdi SE remapped. The reason for this is mainly that I’ve heard it will help increase the mpg that I get from the car. I currently get about 35mpg with varied driving around town and on the motorway.
Can anyone tell me what sort of increase on the mpg I would be likely to get and is it worth doing? I've been quoted about £400 to get it done.
Cheers

I've had mine done. Increase in economy by at least 4MPH and that is with significant performance increase. Certainly not disappointed with it. Be careful though, who ou use.

It's 2005 (April). I think that it was one of the first new shape ones. Where are you based?

Hi
We are in Wolverhampton, West Midlands.
Gains are +39bhp and +80NM of torque. Power is delivered strongly across the rev-range, with no tailing off. Smoothness of delivery is also improved.
MPG will usually improve from between 3 - 6mpg ;)

I was on the last Chip N Spin day on the 2nd August. First car on the rollers was a 2.7 TDI. 220bho was the end figure I believe

Wha sort of chip are you looking at? I am thinking of doing the same thing with my 3.0tdi quattro. I was going o use a bluefin from s'chips but they are £599! I was wondering who else is out there that will stand over the remap! I would prefer a remap unit like a bluefin that I can plug in and activate / deactivate myself as I wish...

Has anybody used Angel Tuning, they were recommended to me and I plan to use them soon after I get my A6 2.0 TDI Limited. I would appreciate somebody sharing their experience of Angel.

Flying Scott - did you go for a remap or a chip? I would love to hear from other A6/A4 3.0 drivers who ahve done this and who they used before committing to anyony.
P-torque - is yours a remap or a chip? i.e. is it like the superchips blue fin system that I can lug in and sett / reset myself?

I've not done anything on this yet as I’m in the process of re-mortgaging at the minute and every penny I have (apart from a small beer kitty) is accounted for. When I get paid at the end of the month I’m planning on looking further into it and getting the ECU remapped. I spoke to someone when I first got he car and they said that I should see an increase from about 180bhp to 225bhp along with a huge increase in the torque
I’ll let you know how I get on when I eventually get it done

Hi,
I'll be starting a new thread soon but I have a 2008 2.7tdi and have a ST3 unit by the side of me waiting to remap it.
My car only has 100 miles on at the moment and chipped UK (the company who provide the maps) have said it should have 2000 miles at least before considering applying the map.
They offer 4 maps, of which I can choose 2 and upload them to the car as often as I like using the ST3 unit (1 at a time of course as you can only load 1 map).
The economy map offers around 4-5mpg, the torque (NM) is around 80 so I expect to see a significant improvement.
Currently my 2.7 is a little 'tight' but pulls excellent in sport mode.
Im not new to remaps and can confirm the difference in performance is jaw dropping on diesels, once you apply the map and then take it off you will be thinking how the hell would you live without it.
Contact chip-n-spin, Mark is mustard and will tell you everything you need to know. They also do regular meets and group buys etc.

I'd be very surprised if you can tune your new 2.7TDI with the ST3 system. Have you tried reading the ECU yet?

Just back from the garage and WHAT a difference in the car. Roads are a bit wet today, so I’ll report back in full in a couple of days time after my trip to Inverness

I think your miss informed my friend, my 58 is read fine by the ST3, just cant upload map for another 1500 odd miles? Have you had trouble reading the new 2.7tdi A6 ecu then?

Hi There
Not misinformed, I have developed software for the latest A6 with EDC17 ECU, and had the ECU in my hands, it belongs to one of the guys at a local dealership who I do remaps for ;)
The Audi A5 2.7TDI has been using the EDC17 since 2007, they must have only put them in the A6 very very recently :beerchug:

Wow, seems like I was lucky :)
I thought maybe it was the A5 2.7 you were talking about for a second. Makes sense they would use similar ECU in A6 I suppose.
Have you developed maps for the EDC17 then?
Chipped UK said mine was EDC16+ whatever the '+' means?

Hi
What bhp version is your A6?
Only some EDC17 VAG vehicles so far. We are still testing the new OBD tool which reads/writes them.
We have been tuning the BMW EDC17 equipped diesels for 2 months now.
EDC16/EDC16+ have different memories.

Im not sure what BHP it is sorry. Its the latest Le Mans 2.7tdi thats all I know.
The unit reads and downloads the original map no problem. Im really glad I missed the new ECU, especially as I have the ST3 already.
Have you any expereinces on the gains of the 2.7tdi engine?
Thanks for your input with the ECU's, very interesting.

Realistic gains are approx 35 - 40bhp and 55 - 60lbs/ft torque ;)

Hello all, I'm due to pick up my 2.7 Le Mans in just over a week. saw the threads about remaps, doesn’t this invalidate the Audi warranty ?
Does the upgrade come with any assurances re improved fuel economy. I'm just a bit nervous of doing this if it were to give me a warranty issue.

I would imagine Audi would pull their face if you told them it was re-mapped.
But, re-mappers don't take the car beyond the tolerances and what is acceptable. If re-mapped by somebody good, then Audi would not be able to tell it was re-mapped unless they drove it/put it on a rolling road.
The other thing is, I've heard of people who have taken their cars to Audi for a service or some work and it has come back with the re-map lost. So, if you do take it to Audi you could lose your re-map.

I was initially a bit hesitant about getting the remap so I waited until the warranty had run out. I don’t think that anyone will give you assurances about improved mpg as it is all about driving style and they don’t know how you will be driving the car.
I had the remap done a week ago and I have since done the Glasgow-Inverness-Glasgow run which I managed 42mpg. I drove as I normally do and it’s the first time I’ve had more than 40mpg on that road (the A9 is very tempting indeed!)
If you are getting a new car, why not drive it and make your mind up after you’ve lived with it for a few months.
Enjoy your new car

Not yet - seen some advice on here which suggests that it would be best to wait until about 2000 miles!
hi all, just had my 180 quattro remapped by a4 audi in glasgow( re-mapping software by celtic tuning),power is up to 220 ,the car is easier to drive now dont know about mpg yet but it doesnt seem to to reving as hard so should increase, ill post again as soon as i have had a couple of decent runs to check, was 27 - 33 so hoping for some improvement, regards 1888

I had mine done about 6 months ago. Fabulous increadse in power, with significant mpg increase as well...but not at the same time....
With very careful mway driving, computer has shown 60mpg and 60mph.
That takes some doing and computer is optimistic, but I can get 700 miles to the tank.
Hope that helps

I've got a 2.7TDI LeMans muti A6 saloon , 58plate 08 model and at first fuel economy was 38+ and sometimes low 40's. Now I'm lucky to get high 30's , can I remap for better overall economy, not interested in performance gains really and dont want to foxar the gearbox.

I think your economy will improve over time, but remapping will achieve much bigger gains. I watched The Reds :approve: at Anfield at the w/e, round trip 404 miles, used 8 gallons of diesel. If you don't want performance gains, you will need to state this at the time you take the car in. I think they do have leeway. Good luck

Were still offering re-maps for £250 till the end of Jan. Most of the new car's 08+ are running EDC17 now.. We can re-map them both... Cos were the boys lol...:approve:
We offer a 14 day money back too.. Its all down to were you are as were in Northampton.
As for dealers ring and ask them some are ok with it and some are not.. We deal with 4 audi dealers in our neck of the wood's there maps are a bit diffrent to what we would sell you, just how it is...
There charge a lot more but you get your warranty still kept..
So its down to you..
But what they wont see they wont know about...
Mike..
