Please can you explain to me your though process to come to a conclusion a turbo is your best option? What amount of work do you imagine this would take not only for the turbo but also suspension, drivetrain and braking modification this would take? How much do you imagine this to cost? How does that balance against buying a Golf GTI turbo?

Leave the poor lad alone fellas, don't forget we were ALL young once !
As to your answer;
Yes you could fit a turbo to your 1.4.
It would entail getting someone to custom fabricate an intake manifold and then you'd need someone to provide a custom ecu / cluster, wiring loom and then map it all to work. This lot I reckon would cost you a minimum of £4000. Then you'd need to obviously tell your insurance company which would also cost about £2000-£3000 assuming your 17/18/19.
In all honesty, like the rest of us you would be better off biding your time, putting up with it for a few years, then get yourself a 1.8T once your insurance has come down.
Modding the 1.4 is pointless.
Be young, live in the pub, there will be plenty of time for faster cars as you get older. We ALL know what it is like to be in a slow-mobile..... ha ha ha !!
I'd gladly take a humble 1.4 if I could again be 18 years old again !

You see... not all 1.4s are slow and lifeless ! 170bhp... hmm... what am I doing with a 1.9 PD130 ? :o

Sounds great as well.
Although I'm not sure why you'd get one over a 170 tdi though.

Well, no tractor like clatter on cold mornings would be one. ;)
But the torque, reliability, and frugalness of the TDI would also be attractive. :D
